EuroHockey U18 Championships 2025 – Day 2 Drama in Lille

The EuroHockey U18 Championships continued on 14 July in Lille, France, with four gripping Pool B encounters streamed live on EHTV, featuring big wins, narrow escapes, and dramatic finishes as both the boys and the girls teams fought for supremacy in the race for semi-final spots.

Belgium girls powered past Spain with clinical finishing
:
Belgium’s girls laid down a serious marker in Pool B, securing a 3-0 win over Spain in the morning fixture. After a tight first quarter, Belgium broke the deadlock in the 20th minute through a penalty corner strike from Emilie Verhees. Two quickfire field goals from captain Louise Van Herendael in the 33rd and 34th minutes sealed the victory, showcasing their cutting edge in attack. Spain struggled to find a reply despite several promising moments, leaving Belgium undefeated after two games.

Poland girls narrowly defeat France in dramatic finale:
A late penalty corner conversion from Jagoda Arciszewska earned Poland a hard-fought 1-0 victory over hosts France in a tense and evenly-matched contest. With both sides locked in a defensive battle for much of the game, it was the Polish side that kept its composure in the final moments. France’s defence had stood firm until the 60th minute but was ultimately undone by Poland’s persistence and set-piece execution, a result that keeps Poland in contention for a top-two finish in Pool B.

Belgium edge the Dutch in boys’ Pool B thriller:
Belgium’s boys delivered a composed and resilient performance to defeat the Netherlands 2-1 in a tightly contested encounter. Boaz Houben gave the Dutch a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute with a smart field goal, but Belgium hit back swiftly through Félix Leeuw. The game remained level until the final quarter, when Belgium earned a decisive penalty corner, expertly converted by Jayd Poels in the 54th minute. The result puts Belgium in a strong position ahead of their final group game.

France’s boys turn on the style to sweep aside Scotland:
France produced a dominant display in front of their home fans, powering to a 6-1 win over Scotland in the final match of the day. Achille Loussif and Oscar Delacroix helped the hosts to a 2-0 lead by the end of the first quarter, and although Scotland responded through a penalty stroke from Ben Moulson, France proved too strong. Five different scorers contributed to the emphatic result, underlining France’s attacking depth and intent as they eye a semi-final berth.
